Need to ensure efficient water management stressed

Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) has stressed the need for a upright approach to ensure sustainable, efficient and equitable management of scarce water resources as its shortage can have a devastating impact on the socio-economic development and wellbeing of mankind.
LCCI President Shahzad Ali Malik, in a statement on the occasion of 'World Water Day', said the chamber has already formed 'Pakistan Water Front' to invite authorities' attention towards the depleting water resources and highlight need for building water reservoirs in the country, including Kalabagh Dam.
All chambers and trade associations have already been taken onboard on Pakistan Water Front and they have assured their unequivocal support, as they are fully convinced that without water, 20 million acres of otherwise fertile land would dry up in a week. This would result in making million of people starve, he said adding that no army with bombs and shellfire could devastate as thoroughly as Pakistan could be devastated by India by the latter cutting off river flows.
