Tributes paid to Salmaan Taseer

Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) workers and civil society members paid tribute to late Punjab governor Salmaan Taseer by lighting candles at the site of his assassination here at Kohsar Market on Sunday night.
Spokesperson to the President Farhatullah Babar was among those who had gathered to remember Salman Taseer. Babar said that Shaheed Salman Taseer sacrificed his life for the rights of minorities. Referring to some recents incidents, he said unfortunately a dangerous trend of punishing an accused without adopting the course of law, was growing in the society, which should be discouraged by the whole nation.
The other participants also paid tributes to Taseer for his political sagacity, courage, humanitarianism and patriotism.
They said that Taseer's sacrifice would instill a new spirit and determination among his followers. The people also recited poetry to highlight the cause, for which Salman Taseer laid down his life. They lauded the services of Salman Taseer and said he was very kind to the poor.
