President Barack Obama met India's National Security Advisor Shivshankar Menon, who was in town to discuss agreements reached during the US leader's India visit, officials said Saturday. Obama dropped in on a meeting between his own National Security Advisor Tom Donilon and Menon on Friday, the White House said in a statement.
The president "reaffirmed his commitment to building a true global, strategic partnership with India," the statement said. Obama "relayed his priorities for the coming year, including advancing our bilateral economic relationship and making progress on nuclear security efforts."
Obama held talks in India with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in November, and also visited Mumbai, on a trip billed by the White House as a key plank of a strategy to re-engage Asia and open new markets for US exports.
