LUMS promoting research vision with high impact on Pakistan: vice chancellor

Vice Chancellor Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) Dr Ahmad Jan Durrani has said that the university is promoting a research vision with high impact on Pakistan and the region centred on areas of critical national need such as energy, education, water, health care, governance and rule of law, security and social justice.
He was speaking on the inauguration of the School of Science and Engineering (SSE) and on the 25th anniversary of LUMS on Wednesday. He also said that SSE is a comprehensive plan, formulated with the Collaboration of Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and RICE institute. He said that the purpose of the programme is to develop a far reaching, innovative and multidisciplinary solutions to the most complex problems that Pakistan faces today.
Pro-Chancellor Syed Babar Ali, Rector Abdul Razak Dawood, members of the SSE Advisory Board Dr Robert Jaffe and Dr Richard Larson spoke about the continuous efforts, commitment to excellence and adherence to merit which have been the primary focus of LUMS over the last 25 years. Earlier, the event began with the inauguration and ribbon cutting ceremony for the School of Science and Engineering (SSE). The guests were given a tour of the state-of-the-art SSE building and viewed the various departments within the school. A special 25th anniversary documentary was also shown.
The ceremony was attended by Pro-Chancellor Syed Babar Ali, Rector Abdul Razak Dawood, members of the SSE Advisory Board Dr Robert Jaffe and Dr Richard Larson. Dignitaries from foreign embassies, LUMS leadership, senior members of faculty and staff were also present.
