The Board of Governors (BOGs) of 26 government colleges will not have powers to increase college fee or sell college property, Senior Advisor to Chief Minister Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa assured a delegation of Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association PPLA here on Wednesday.
A PPLA delegation led by Dr Zahid met with the senior advisor and provincial ministers Rana Sanaullah and Mujtaba Shua-ur-Rehman to discuss their reservations about the newly constituted Board of Governors in 26 government degree colleges, which has caused unrest among the teachers and students community. Khosa said that teachers are main pillars of education system.
Keeping in view their importance in education system, the government has great regards for them and ready to consider their demands sympathetically. He said that their reservations regarding Boards of Governors (BOGs) would be removed and their interests would be fully safeguarded.
He said that the case about BOGs is under trial in the Court and government will honour the judgement of the Court in this regard. He further stated that the main object of establishment BOGs and other government measures is to improve the standard of college education by making free the institutions from negative affect of academy mafia.
The Senior Advisor stated that the meeting of all BOGs have been held and all the Boards have declared through a resolution that there will be no enhancement in college fee and it will be only increased with the approval of education department. The delegation was assured that all the teachers posted in 26-colleges are government servant and their service would be governed under Punjab Civil Service Rules and the BOGs will have no authority to sell out the college property.
