Equities move both ways on LSE

Equities on Tuesday moved both ways on the Lahore Stock Exchange (LSE) and ended on a mixed note amid volatile situation because of the investors' conscious approach who picked selective scrips. The LSE-25 index gained 23.65 points and was closed at 3843.47 points against 3819.82 points of Monday, while transaction volume was improved to 6.312 million shares, as compared to 4.658 million shares traded a day earlier.
The market opened on a positive sign but after showing sharp rise could not sustain. The market witnessed volatile situation and the equities kept on moving up and down throughout the day. Fresh buying and profit taking in blue chips continued, simultaneously. As a result, PPL, OGDC, PSO, Pakistan Oil Fields of the oil sector showed strength, while Engro Corporation, Millat Tractors, MCB Bank, Lucky Cement, Lotte Pakistan PTA, Arif Habib Corporation, Lafarge Pakistan Cement, and D.G. Khan Cement also supported the market sentiments.
On the contrary, Attock Refinery, United Bank, Bank of Punjab, Bank Alfalah, NetSol Technologies, Treet Corporation, Engro Polymer and Chemical, Nishat Chunian Power, Dewan Cement, Nishat Chunian, and WorldCall Telecom succumbed of the profit taking and stayed in negative zone.
The losers were just ahead of the gainers. As many as 29 companies, out of a total of 112 active companies, posted gains, 30 registered losses, while values of 53 companies stayed unchanged at their previous closing levels. Millat Tractors gained Rs 7.45, Engro Corporation was improved by Rs 4.94, PPL was appreciated by Rs 3.61, while MCB Bank and Tri-Pack Films were up by Rs 2.12 and 2.04, respectively.
In the negative column, Attock Refinery lost Rs 2.31, United Bank was declined by 70-paisa, NetSol Technologies shed 52-paisa, while Treet Corporation and Engro Polymer and Chemical were down by 40-paisa each. Lotte Pakistan PTA continued to be the market leader with trading of 2.874 million shares followed by Fauji Fertiliser Bin Qasim with 1.533 million shares.
