With a view to increasing accessibility of quality reproductive health services (RHS) including family-planning and to enhance understanding of adverse affects of rapid population growth, Punjab government in collaboration with UNFPA and other donors has launched projects in various districts of the province. Punjab Minister for Population Welfare, Neelam Jabbar Chaudhry said this while talking to delegations of community leaders here Monday.
She informed them that the government is utilising all resources for public welfare projects. Highlighting the efforts of population welfare department for checking population growth, she said the number of males for mobilising for providing quality family planning services at union council level will be increased up to 3300.
She informed that NGOs are also being encouraged and motivated to lend a helping hand in this cause as over-population is a national burden. Community leaders, especially Ulema and the media can greatly contribute in realising the people to keep their families according to their resources, she added. The minister said that messages of the department would be released in local languages, customs and traditions in the targeted areas so that people could be well aware of the aims and objectives of the department.
