The health department of Punjab on Monday launched 12-day preventive campaign against measles by administering injections to children here at Government Munshi Hospital. This campaign is being conducted in 11 different districts of the province during which medical teams would administer injections and polio drops to the children aging between six months to five years and also them. The campaign would continue till 29th January.
DG Health Punjab Dr Muhammad Aslam Chaudhry said that health department has constituted 8,818 mobile teams comprising of 17,636 health officials. These teams would visit every village, town and mohallah of a concerned district as well as reach community centre or 'dera' of 'number dar' of the village as well. The announcement regarding their arrival in the locality would be made from the nearby mosques, he added.
Dr Aslam said that measles is at the verge of elimination and this special campaign has been launched to achieve this target. He informed that during this 12-day campaign, districts of Lahore, Attock, Chakwal, Gujrat, Hafizabad, Jhang, Multan, Nankana Sahib, Rawalpindi, Sargodha and Sialkot would be covered. He said that the rest of districts would be included in the next phase of the campaign.
