The provincial assembly of Khyber Pakhtunhwa unanimously passed a resolution to express confidence and trust in the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan and as co-chairman of Pakistan People's Party (PPP) and termed it essential for forging unity and reconciliation among the democratic forces.
The parliamentary leader of PPP in Khyber Pakhtunhwa Assembly, Abdul Akbar Khan, moved the resolution soon after the recitation from the Holy Qur'aan. The treasury benches were looking in a hurry to move the resolution as the assembly unusually resumed proceedings earlier than its tradition of one hour delay.
Only one opposition member, Ghulam Mohammad of PML-Q, was present in the house when the resolution was moved. However, he also remained silent and did not oppose the move. The parliamentary leader of PPP requested Speaker Kiramatullah Khan to suspend the rules to allow him to present a resolution.
The speaker suggested delay for the resolution till the end of question-hour. But, Minister Bashir Ahmad Bilour also joined the request for suspension of the rules for the presentation of the resolution. On the insistence of the parliamentary leaders of both coalition partners in the province, the speaker suspended the rules and allowed Akbar to present his resolution in the house.
In routine matters the speaker never allows any point of order or resolution during the question hour by terming it out of rules. But, in the case of Monday's resolution the speaker gave the floor to the mover, after a little hesitation. The resolution said that the august house of the Khyber Pakhtunhwa Assembly shows its fullest confidence and trust in the President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Mr Asif Ali Zardari, who was elected by securing overwhelming majority of votes from the four provincial assemblies, Senate and the National Assembly of Pakistan being Co-Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party as President of Pakistan.
Through the resolution, the house further termed his role very essential as co-chairman of the Pakistan People's Party and being the President of Pakistan to forge unity in the nation as well as reconciliation amongst the democratic forces. The house also appreciated his efforts in the dual offices for the furtherance of democracy and strengthening of Pakistan. The speaker put the resolution to vote and the house adopted it unanimously. It is worth mentioning that the provincial assembly of Sindh, the home-province of the President Asif Ali Zardari had also passed such resolution unanimously on Wednesday.
