Punjab Chief Minister, Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif here on Sunday ordered immediate suspension of Executive District Officer Education (EDO Education), Dr. Muhammad Arshad and directed action against other officers for their failure to construct school or making alternative arrangements in view of construction of Ring Road in Chachuwali and Pind Bedian Road in Lahore.
He issued instructions for setting up a special committee comprising local people for identifying site for new school within 48 hours, and start construction within seven days. He also ordered temporary arrangements for education of girl students till construction of the building.
Taking strict notice of a report telecast on a TV channel regarding the problems being faced by students especially girls due to non-existence of primary school in Chachuwala Pind Bedian Road Lahore, the chief minister personally visited the village to ascertain facts. Local people informed him that after the demolition of primary school, they contacted EDO Education several times for making alternative arrangements as girl students had to travel four to five kilometres to Ludhar village to receive education but the officer concerned paid no attention.
Shahbaz said it is highly lamentable that in spite of demand of the local population, the officer concerned neither took action for construction of school nor made temporary arrangements due to which students were forced to study under open sky. He said that the education department's officers showed criminal negligence regarding the matter.
He observed that had there been a problem of school for the children of the elite, a building would have had been raised overnight, but no attention was paid to the problem of the children of the common man. He termed this attitude of bureaucracy a big hurdle in national development as it prefers to sit in offices instead of resolving problems of the masses. The chief minister reiterated that provision of modern education to the young generation is the top priority of the government and revolutionary measures are being taken for this purpose.
