Targeted killings, Railways fares: Jamaat-i-Islami submits adjournment motion in senate

Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) on Saturday submitted two separate adjournment motions to Senate's Secretariat against the unabated target killing incidents and murder of a journalist in Karachi, and increase in Pakistan Railways' fares.
The adjournment motions were submitted by three JI senators namely Professor Khurshid Ahmed, Professor Mohammad Ibrahim Khan and Afia Zia under clause 74 of the rules of procedure and conduct of the senate, 1988, seeking debate of the upper house on the issues in its next session.
In the first adjournment motion, the senators expressed serious concerns over the loss of innocent lives, particularly killing of a young journalist of a private TV channel, Wali Khan Babar. "It is shocking that Karachi once again is on fire. Target killing is back with vengeance and a young promising journalist Wali Khan Babar gave his blood for courageously reporting the role of major political groups in Karachi", said Professor Kurshid Ahmed.
He held provincial and federal governments directly responsible for the murder of the young journalist, adding that instead of punishing the culprits, they are engaged in political bargaining and cannot run away from the responsibility ie, blood being shed in the city. In the second privilege motion, JI senators raised voice against up to 30 percent increase in Pakistan Railways fares. They urged that both issues of public importance should be discussed in the house on priority basis.
