Pakistan on Thursday reiterated its request urging New Dehli to share the details of investigation into Samjhota Express blast, reportedly perpetrated by Hindu extremists, saying India was conducting the investigations at 'snail's pace' to put it mildly.
"The Indian investigation is clearly moving at snail's pace, to put it mildly", said Foreign Office spokesman Abdul Basit as he confirmed India had not shared details of the investigations with Islamabad. It is now almost four years to the blast in which 70 people, including 42 Pakistanis were killed.
In addition, the spokesman said that Islamabad was still awaiting India's response to our suggestion to send a Judicial Commission to India as is required legally in the on-going Mumbai attack trial in Pakistan. "The delay on the part of India is obviously not helping the trial proceedings against the seven accused in Pakistan," he added.
While talking about US Vice President Joe Biden's visit to Pakistan, he said that the visit provided a useful opportunity for both the countries to discuss a whole range of bilateral and regional issues, as well as issues related to counterterrorism since Pakistan and the US are allies in counterterrorism and we understand each other's viewpoint.
When asked about discussion over launching a military operation in North Waziristan, he said that the United States knows well our viewpoint on full-scale operations in North Waziristan and we will move ahead at a time of our own choice. The spokesman said that Pakistan is firmly committed to sovereignty and territorial integrity of Afghanistan and have no ambition, 'I repeat have no ambition, to determine political dispensation in Afghanistan and we are working for normal state-to-state relations with our brotherly neighbour'.
"It is necessary that all regional countries recommit themselves to principles of non-interference and non-intervention. Unfortunately, Afghanistan has been a victim of power play for decades for global and regional interests. This, in our view, should come to an end. The people of Afghanistan have suffered heavily and so has Pakistan," he added. Abdul Basit said that there is no room for a new great game pertaining to Afghanistan. Being the immediate neighbour, we understand its implications and consequences not only for Afghanistan but also for Pakistan and the entire region.
