Australian Federal Police Counsellor meets IGP Sindh

pakthrKARACHI: The Counsellor Police Liaison, Australian Federal Police (AFP), Marzio Da Re, called on Inspector General of Police Sihdh, Mushtaq Ahmed Shah, at the CPO.

A statement on Sunday said that Additional IGP Karachi/CID, Ghulam Shabbir Shaikh, DIGP Headquarters, Sardar Abdul Majeed; AIG, Forensic Division, Munir Shaikh SP, ACLC, Javed Akbar Riaz were also present on the occasion.

The Counsellor Police Liaison informed that AFP was offering a wide range of forensic training programmes to senior Police staff and forensic officers.

`The AFP is providing this support to Pakistan to aid in the development of the application of forensic science.

The Programme includes brief description of each course which is designed to equip senior officials and forensic staff with enhanced management and examination skills and contribute to the forensic development plans', he emphasized.

He further disclosed that the 6 month training programme would be conducted in Canberra (Australia) by specialist AFP forensic mangers in conjunction with the Canberra National Centre for Forensic studies.

The Assistant Inspector General, Forensic Division Sindh Police informed the IGP, Sindh the 6-month Forensic Capability Development Training Project would be from January up to July 2012.

The Course of the training project include: 1- Explosives and Bomb Scene awareness, 2- Evidence Recognition and Recovery, 3- Introduction to Firearms Examination, 4- Laboratory management for Specialist and Technical Experts, 5 -Questioned Documents, 6- Forensic Biology /DNA and 7- Finger Print Recovery and Enhancement', Munir Shaikh concluded.

The visiting delegation said that their immediate priority was the explosives and bomb scene awareness programme which include an introduction to the theory of explosives and the construction of improvised explosive devices (IED) and the forensic examination of relevant post blast scenes, evidence recovery and the use of forensic finding for intelligence purposes.

IGP Sindh, Mushtaq Shah, appreciating the gesture of Australian Federal Police expressed his gratitude for the Australian Government and said that the working relations would be successful in bringing the desired results.
