The law enforcement agencies on Thursday detained some five miscreants in a search operation carried out in Pehalwan Goth to maintain peace in the volatile area of the metropolis. According to sources, the search operation was initiated after the target killing of three activists of Awami National Party (ANP) namely Khayal Wazeer, Saleem Khan and Shahid Ghani in Pehalwan Goth on Wednesday.
They said ANP had nominated its rivalry Pukhtoons' criminal group led by Muddasir for the said killings. They said heavy contingents of police and Rangers led by DIG East Commander Shaukat along with SP Gulshan Town Naeem Sheikh and SP Shah Faisal Town Dr Farooq cordoned off the area at around 2:00pm and started search operation.
SP Naeem Sheikh while talking to this scribe claimed to have arrested some miscreants namely Pir Nizamuddin, Qurban, Kamran and Saleem during search operation and recovered two Kalashnikovs, two TT pistols and some 100 rounds from their possession. He said that Pir Nizamuddin was nominated in the killings of three ANP's activists in an FIR lodged by ANP.
He said that this was not door to door search operation but against specific group responsible for deteriorating law and order situation in the area. Meanwhile, the area residents lauded the efforts of the law enforcement agencies against the criminals.
