President Asif Ali Zardari Thursday left for United States to participate in the funeral of special envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan Richard Holbrooke. Well-placed sources in the Presidency Wednesday told Business Recorder that the President left for US on a week-long visit during which he would attend the memorial of diplomat Richard Holbrooke on Friday, January 14, in Washington, DC 2011.
American President and other head of states would also attend the funeral prayer. Holbrooke, a famed longtime diplomat who served as Obama's special envoy to Pakistan and Afghanistan, died on December 13 at the age 69 after suffering a tear in his aorta, the body's principal artery.
Before arrival the US, President Aif Ali Zardari will go to Dubai to see his children, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Bakhtawar and Aseefa, the sources said. According to the sources, the President Wednesday also phoned PML-N Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif, MQM Chief Altaf Hussain and ANP President Asfandyar Wali to take them into confidence before leaving for the US visit.
