An eight-member delegation of Harvard University students on Tuesday visited Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) to get themselves updated on as how trade and industry in the part of the world was coping with internal and external challenges being faced by the country in general and the economy in particular.
The delegation, headed by Ms Lillian Langford also held meeting with the LCCI office-bearers. The delegation participants asked a number of questions about Pakistan's economy to ongoing trade relations with India. Speaking on the occasion, the LCCI President said, "We are peace-loving and moderate nation. In fact, the international portrayal of Pakistan is often quite opposite of true picture of any occurrence taking place in this country. Extremism and the act of terrorism more often than not have ruined our image which costs us dearly both at national and international levels."
He said Pakistan is front runner in war against terror but unfortunately the country itself has fallen prey to this war which was imposed on Pakistan on account of geo-political location. The prevailing crisis-like situation in Pakistan is the outcome of many a factors. "We are doing our level best to improve our image and hoping that in near future things will unfold in our way. For that we need to take bold steps in the best interest of our nation and country," he added.
The LCCI President said that the judiciary is on the right track and trying to rectify the ills slowly and steadily. This positive turn around is the result of joint move and efforts done by all the segments of civil society who stood united for the restoration of Pakistan's judiciary turning it into an independent and strong body to ensure rule of law. The media, he said, unlike past is fully independent and there is complete freedom of speech for everyone. Both print and electronic media is contributing to their best by putting in their efforts to get the things right.
