Dense fog in Southern Punjab on Monday evening not only caused massive nuisance for the commuters but also paralysed routine activities of the citizens. It also badly affected flight schedules and disrupted railway traffic. Due to foggy conditions, traffic jams in various city roads were witnessed during the evening hours. Thick fog also disturbed traffic at GT road, while flights operation at Multan International Airport was also disturbed.
All five flights for Karachi, Islamabad and Lahore were cancelled. PIA authorities said that the airline has incurred a huge loss due to unfair weather and many international passengers could not reach their destinations. Dubai flight PK-222 was cancelled on Sunday.
Meteorological department on Monday forecast mainly dry weather with foggy conditions, which are likely to continue from midnight to morning during the next 24 hours while cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country. However, moderate/dense foggy conditions are likely to continue over the plain areas of Punjab, central and lower Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa and Upper Sindh from mid night to mid day. According to the synoptic situation, previous day's shallow westerly wave has moved eastwards.
Maximum temperature recorded during last 24 hours was minimum 1C and maximum 12C in Multan while highest maximum temperature in the country (recorded at Ormara) was 29C, highest maximum temperature in Punjab (recorded in Islamabad) was 20.5C. Lowest minimum temperature in the country (recorded at Kalam) was -9.8C while lowest minimum temperature in Punjab (recorded in Bhakkar) was 0C.
