Pakistan Electric Power Company (Pepco) reduced gap between power generation and demand from 4,000 MW to 2,880 MW on Friday. Earlier, a spokesman of (Pepco) had stated that owing to intense fog there had been a further reduction in power generation of around 1500 MW.
Giving details of Friday's power generation, Pepco spokesman said the utility's hydel, thermal, Independent Power Producers (IPPs) and Rental Power Plants generated 9,937 MW electricity against the demand of 12,617 MW. The shortfall of 2,880 MW was met by load shedding of four to five hours in the cities and up to 8 hours load shedding in the rural areas.
He said hydel power units at Tarbela, Ghazi Barotha, Mangla and Chashma produced 1,952 MW, thermal power houses generated 1,383 MW, IPPs contributed 6,348 MW and RPPs added 62 MW electricity to the national grid. Pepco supplied 690 MW electricity to KESC. The spokesman assured that every effort is being made to reduce the gap between supply and demand of power, so that the economic and social activities remain unaffected.
