US copper futures extended losses to down more than 2 percent Thursday morning, pressured by a technical breakdown in the euro versus the dollar, analysts said. COMEX copper for March delivery sank 9.65 cents or 2.2 percent to an early-session low at $4.3115 per lb in step with the euro's collapse to a five-week low against the dollar.
A stronger dollar versus the euro makes commodities priced in the US currency more expensive for foreign investors.
