Provincial Law Minister Rana Sanaullah Khan has said that development budget of South Punjab will increase from 29 to 35 percent in the next budget. He was addressing the Second Public Policy Dialogue on South Punjab organised by Pakistan Institute of Legislative Development and Transparency International (PILDAT) on Wednesday.
Executive Director PILDAT Ahmed Bilal Mehboob, Former Minister of State Khusroo Bakhtyar, MPA Mohsin Leghari, MPA Waris Kaloo, MPA Sardar Athar Gorchani, MPA Tariq Hameed, MPA Rana Afzal also spoke on the occasion. The seminar was addressed by members of provincial assembly from Southern Punjab and a large number of MPA's.
Sanaullah said that government would try to accommodate the suggestions for the uplift of the South Punjab in the up coming budget session of Punjab Assembly starting from December 31. He criticised the politicians of Southern Punjab by saying that they were raising the slogan of new province for their political gains.
Khusroo Bakhtyar and MPA Mohsin Leghari while giving their suggestions for the uplift of the South Punjab said that industrial zones, technical and vocational training institutes will be established in the region. They said that this would be helpful in creating jobs in the area. They also said that there should be no discrimination in the distribution of irrigation water. They said that government should take steps to provide education and health facilities to the most backward areas of the province. They also said that funds were not released for the development schemes passed in 2008. They further said that funds should be dispersed according to the recommendations of Provincial Finance Commission.
