Population Welfare Department Punjab has planned to launch a pilot project to control rapidly increasing population with the help of Ulema. It was the same model that Bangladesh, Iran and Indonesia used in order to control population. Punjab Minister for Population Welfare, Neelam Jabbar Chaudhry said.
"After the abolition of concurrent list, the population welfare department has been devolved to the provinces and now the department has to play vital role to control the rapid population growth." She directed the department officials to hold public awareness seminars at union council level of the rural areas and also acquire the services of religious scholars for this purpose.
She expressed these views at the inauguration of resource center at population welfare department on Wednesday. Secretary Population Welfare Department, DG, and other high ranking officials of the department were also present. The minister also distributed cheques among employees of the department belonging to flood-affected areas. The minister said that doctors, nurses, paramedics especially LHWs, LHVs and midwives play pivotal role in provision of mother and child healthcare facilities to the people of rural areas.
