Uncertainty prevailing: KU's new academic session unlikely to begin on January 8

The new academic session of Karachi University is unlikely to begin on Saturday January 8, 2011 for a number of reasons. Earlier, the varsity announced the opening session to be commenced from January 3 but later due to various reasons the date for opening session was extended to January 8.
An official in the Karachi University told Business Recorder here on Wednesday that it seems impossible in current scenario to start new academic session from January 8, because the semester exams are still going on and they will finish on January 5, besides that part 1 and part 2 of BA, BSc regular/private, part 1 of MBBS, and 2nd & 3rd year of BDS exams are continuously being postponed owing to various incidents and new dates have been announced.
The recent blast in the varsity caused further postponement of the two papers of BA part I & II, scheduled on December 28 & 29. But so far new date was not announced yet for the papers, however, a high KU official confirmed that consultations are going on and the dates would be announced soon.
According to details, a kidnapping incident made foiled in the varsity premises when the hostage student jumped out from the car at the rangers check post at Maskan gate and the two kidnapper students were arrested and later expelled by the varsity administration.
Later, two incidents of clashes occurred between two groups on December 9 (Friday) and December 10 (Saturday). Besides, minor incidents also happened regarding misbehaving with teachers during exams, in addition to the holidays of Moharram and then the recent blast in the varsity has damaged the routine schedule particularly, starting of new academic session very badly.
According to details, more then 16 papers have been cancelled and while the semester papers are being finished on January 5, which are supposed to be finished by the end of this month. The admission process for new session also not finished. The varsity administration announced the new dates after postponement of exams mostly on each Sunday.
