Late buying, mainly by foreign investors and institutions, on Wednesday supported the KSE-100 index to register a rise of 37.97 points which closed at 11,886.02 points. The market witnessed mixed trend, with the index oscillating between 11,941.27 points high and 11,815.04 points low. Trading remained low and the volume at ready counter declined to 99.797 million shares as compared to 110.110 million shares traded on Tuesday.
Market capitalisation increased by Rs 10 billion to Rs 3.231 trillion. Of 408 active scrips, 197 closed in negative and 183 in positive, while the values of 28 scrips remained unchanged. Bank Al Falah was the volume leader with 16.224 million shares and gained Re 0.52 to close at Rs 11.21. NBP and UBL increased by Rs 1.11 and Rs 3.14 to close at Rs 73.88 and Rs 68.19 with 6.732 million shares and 5.215 million shares respectively.
Fauji Fertiliser Bin Qasim lost Re 0.68 to close at Rs 36.46 with 6.885 million shares. Lotte Pakistan PTA decreased by Re 0.07 to close at Rs 13.19 with 3.896 million shares. PTCL gained Re 0.26 to close at Rs 19.45 with 3.787 million shares. Jahangir Siddiqui Co lost Re 0.10 to close at Rs 10.96 with 3.242 million shares. JS Growth Fund inched up by Re 0.04 to close at Rs 5.42 with 2.649 million shares. Engro Corporation declined by Rs 2.91 to close at Rs 189.76 with 2.510 million shares. Dewan Salman decreased by Re 0.19 to close at Rs 2.96 with 2.278 million shares.
Rafhan Maize and Indus Dyeing were the highest gainers increasing by Rs 69.61 and Rs 12.87 to close at Rs 2144.44 and Rs 306.92 respectively, while Unilever Pak and Colgate Palmolive were the worst losers declining by Rs 37.47 and Rs 33.58 to close at Rs 4355.96 and Rs 916.42 respectively.
Ahsan Mehanti at Arif Habib Investments said that positive activity continued at the bourse on strong institutional interest in banking and oil sector scrips, ahead of year-end close. The renewed foreign interest, the bid for purchase of further stakes in UBL by Bestway Group and higher international commodity prices also played a catalyst role in positive activity at KSE despite concerns for rising political uncertainty, he added.
