The Social Welfare and Women Development Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will launch a Women Caucus in the forthcoming Inter-Provincial Ministerial Group (IPMG) conference that will be held in Peshawar next month. The caucus will be a binding instrument for other provinces as well to protect the rights of women folk and determine responsibilities in peace for them instead of expecting any optional role of women in social and economic uplift.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Social Welfare and Women Development Sitara Ayaz said this while presiding over a meeting regarding arrangements for IPMG conference held at the Social Welfare Directorate here Tuesday. The Provincial Minister told that during the two-day conference endeavours of those women of the province who rendered meritorious services for women cause would also be recognised formally.
She added that women ministers of all the provinces would present reports about their initiatives, achievements and future plans for women empowerment. Reviewing in detail the proposed contents of the conference Sitara Ayaz explained that primary purpose of the event is to explore ways and means to set responsibilities of women not only in natural disasters and man made conflicts etc.
Referring to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government's commitment towards women empowerment, the provincial minister said that establishment of a commission on status of women, upgradation of social welfare directorate to Directorate General level and incorporation of Women Development wing therein, skill and entrepreneurship development programmes for women, launch of women's livelihood programmes, shelter home for homeless women, improvement of Women Crisis Centre and certain other initiatives are some of the examples of her commitment to improve the living conditions and protection of the rights of women of the province.
She was of the view that though the proposed women caucus has been worked out and prepared by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province but it would help all the provinces of the country to make women a protected and responsible folk of the soil.
