Stone development company formed to promote marble city pilot project

Zubair_MotiwalaKARACHI: The First Board meeting of Sindh Stone Development Company (SSDC), was held in the Committee Room of the Sindh Board of Investment (SBl), here on Saturday.

Chairman SBI, Zubair Motiwala informed the participants that the foremost objective of this effort is to enhance the export of valuable marble and granite sector of Pakistan by focusing on increased competitiveness and modernisation of existing marble practices, said a statement.

Provincial Secretary Investment, Younus Dagha highlighted the objectives for the establishment of an independent company under the umbrella of Sindh government.

He said that the Sindh Government has allocated 300 acres of land

near an ideal location of Deh Mithaghar, District West, Karachi with availability of fresh water canal from Hub Dam right in the middle of allocated land.

While addressing the participants, he said that our prime objective is to facilitate the existing middle class entrepreneurs by providing them with technical assistance and one step facilitation to enhance export oriented productivity of this sector and to avoid wastage of raw material.

He further said that the project shall have tremendous investment and growth potential for entrepreneurs, for being based on high end technology, innovation and services.

He said the concept is based on a cutting edge technology, common facility, training institution and most technologically advanced industrial park for marble and granite sector in Karachi.

Zubair Motiwala discussed various operational modes to make this industry export oriented by provision of refined advanced technology to fully exploit the untapped sector of economy.

He said that the project shall be a pilot project which will pave the way for enhancing better income and subsequent increase in quantum of expert resulting from improved skills through training programmes and to improve operational conditions for people working in this sector.

The project shall provide job opportunities to curb poverty ratio in the best possible way, he said.

The SBI intends to engage an authentic consultant firm for the basic infrastructure development, master planning and topographical survey. The Sindh Land Management Development Company shared their expertise in topographical survey and master planning of the area.

To ensure market competitiveness the Board of Directors is comprises public as well as private sector experts as Amin Hashwani, Sanaullah of all Pakistan Marble Association and M. Haroon Rasheed, according to the statement.
