Nato terminal attackers acquitted

Published Updated

Hafiz Muhammad Irfan and Chaudhry Abdul Rauf were acquitted by special Anti-Terrorism Court Dera Ghazi Khan headed by Javed Iqbal because the prosecution failed to prove their involvement in plotting to attack the Nato terminal in Rajanpur. As soon as they were released from the prison, some unidentified persons in plain clothes took them in their custody in the presence of their relatives and took them to unidentified place.
Farooq Azam, brother of Chaudhry Abdul Rauf told newsmen that a number of intelligence agency men were present at the gate of the prison on Thursday. They threatened him, his father Bashir Ahmed and Rauf's handicapped wife Aasia bibi, his four sons Khaula (7) Ammar (5) Mas'ab (4) and Abdullah (3) to go back otherwise they would also arrest them. They also staged a demonstration in front of offices of DPO Dera Ghazi Khan and shouted slogans for the release of Chaudhry Abdul Rauf. DPO Tasadduq Hayat said, "we have arrested Abdul Rauf of Bahawalpur and Hafi Irfan of Fazilpur (Rajanpur) on June 7th, 2010 on the charge of plotting to attack the Nato terminal on Indus Highway and seized a hand grenade, pistol and a wireless set from their custody,"
