The vision and desire of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto that every Pakistani should have a shelter is now being fulfilled with the announcement of a Housing Scheme for the employees of Pakistan International Airlines.
On the instructions and sincere efforts of the President of Pakistan, Mr Asif Ali Zardari this vision has now become a reality for the hard working work force of PIA, especially the female employees and spouses of male employees of the Corporation who would now feel secure and contended that after serving the National Carrier they will now have a shelter of their own. The PPP led Government of Pakistan has fulfilled the pledge and vision of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto by way of providing land for Housing Scheme for the employees of PIA of Pay Groups 1-IV, a township apartments.
It is for the first time in history that under the leadership of Chairman PIA and Defence Minister, Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar and Managing Director PIA, Captain Muhammad Aijaz Haroon. PIA is offering apartments for the employees of the Corporation on ownership basis. In line with the policy of empowering women, the female employees of the National Carrier will be given the first preference, while male employees will also benefit from this scheme as allotment will be made in the name of their spouses.
Under the scheme, the employees will not be required to make any down payment. 50% of the total cost of the apartment will be from the employees fund while the remaining 50% will be arranged through financial institutions of repute at very low interest rates. The airline also plans to provide similar type of accommodation to employees of higher Pay Groups enabling them to have a shelter of their own at the time of their retirement from PIA service. The employees have also been offered PIA shares under Benazir Employees Stock Option Scheme, now employees are shareholders of the Corporation. PIA is the only Public Sector organisation, which has taken brave initiative by providing home to its workers.
