A five-day 6th Karachi International Book Fair 2010 is being organised from December 24 at Karachi Expo Centre. The KIBF 2010 would provide an opportunity to reach out to citizens and book lovers in Pakistan's largest city and trade hub Karachi.
It also provides a platform for international book publishers to meet with Pakistan's industry specialists and explore business possibilities in this highly potential market.
The event, which is being organised by the Pakistan Publishers and Book Sellers Association (PPBA), will be inaugurated by Provincial Education Minister Pir Mazhar Ul Haq at 11am.
This year the event brings 160 publishing and distribution houses together with domestic and international publishers, booksellers, librarians and institutional customers with 300 stalls all together. In press briefing Owais Mirza Jamil, Convenor, KIBF, informed that the main objective of the 6th KIBF 2010 is to promote the book culture and spreading the lightness of literacy in the country and especially in Karachi.
National Book Foundation, Ministry of Education, Government of Pakistan has extended its full support in making the event a great success and dedicate promote literacy in the country. Sixth KIBF will be visited by books lovers, students from all groups of ages, professionals from all walks of life, academicians, writers, librarians and general public.
Various book launching and book release ceremonies will also be held for notable writers during the fair besides entertaining various contests like drawing, recitation, extempore speech, and quiz for kids. "We are grateful to the publishers and booksellers for their participation in our fair and we hope this year too the people will encourage us," said Aziz Khalid, Zonal Chairman of Pakistan Publishers and Booksellers Association. The 6th KIBF, which is managed by Event and Conference International, will continue till December 28, 2010 and entry for all visitors is free.
