Punjab Minister for Population Welfare Neelam Jabbar Chaudhry has stressed upon the doctors and paramedical staff to raise awareness among the mothers especially in rural folk regarding preventable diseases through promoting preventive measures that is the best approach to make the people and future generation healthy.
While talking to delegations of women, doctors and LHWs, Neelam Jabbar Chaudhry, said that Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto struggled hard to upgrade the socio-economic status of women and we would fulfil her mission. She further said that the government has evolved a comprehensive strategy for the welfare of women and their rights were being safeguarded in all projects related to economic and social development.
She said that welfare centres were being established at the villages where skilled birth attendants, LHVs and LHWs would be appointed. The MMR in LHWs covered area is 147/100,000 live births, compared to 300 to 350/100,000 in uncovered areas, she added.
The minister said the present coalition regime attaches highest priority to health and education and additional resources have been provided to accelerate the efforts for prompt achievement of Millennium Development Goal (MDGs), whereas, the major focus is on protecting the health of people through strengthening of 'Primary Health Care and Disease Preventive Programmes.'
Neelam said that government has evolved a comprehensive strategy for strengthening protective health measures through community based initiatives. In order to achieve the targets besides using internal resources the co-operation of the donor agencies, ie Unicef and WHO is being sought, she added.
