Transporters demand to 25pc cut in CNG fitted vehicles

PESHAWAR: A local Transport Association has called for the implementation of the decision of Peshawar High Court (PHC) regarding the fares of CNG commuters vehicle in letter and spirit to provide relief to the people.

The demand was made by president, Sarhad Public Transport Legal Action Committee, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Haji Ehsanullah Transporter.

He said that Peshawar High Court (PHC) in its decision on November 30, 2011 in the case of fares for CNG fitted vehicles has decided 25 cut. He said that 90 per cent transport has been converted into CNG, but they still charging their fares in proportion to increase in the price of diesel.

He said that Provincial Transport Authority (PTA) and Regional Transport Authorities (RTAs) in the province had already been fixed fares for the CNG consuming commuters vehicles. But, the transporters in connivance of the management of bus stands and traffic police are paying no heed to the decision of the court.

The court in its decision has directed Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Traffic for personally launching of the scheme with collaboration of the PTA, so that, the order of the court is fully implemented.

"Any violation of this order would be taken very seriously and the defaulting officer/official would be prosecuted for contempt of court," said the decision of the court.

Furthermore, the court in its decision has further directed for the modification of the issue and issuance of a corrigendum notification within a period of ten (10) days, fixing the same rate of fare within the city area on 25% discount for CNG fitted vehicles. The copy of the said notification should be produced by the Advocate General (AG) within fifteen (15) days.
