LIMA: Days of violent protests forced the suspension Tuesday of a $4.8-billion gold mining project in northern Peru run by US mining giant Newmont, the company said.
At least 10 people were injured on Tuesday's sixth day of protests against the project, which is at the center of an increasingly bitter environmental dispute that has ensnared leftist President Ollanta Humala.
