Tariq Malik, the Deputy Chairman Nadra won the prestigious ID Outstanding Achievement Award 2009 that is given to the person who produced the most concrete results in the field of auto ID after a tough competition with global IT experts. He was conferred the award at an impressive ceremony in Milan Italy coming ahead of other four nominees all of whom were from the United States of America.
He said that the award proves Pakistan's dedication to bring transparency and good governance in the country. He said the data collected by Nadra has facilitated the government in identifying the deserving families for the Benazir Income Support Programme. Moreover, Nadra ensured transparent distribution of Rs 8 billion among 300,000 internally displaced persons, who left their homes during military operations.
This award, he added, would encourage him and his team to further improve the operation. He said Pakistan already houses world's largest biometric database of over 100 million citizens, which is expanding with the passage of time. Malik in his acceptance speech dedicated the award to the martyred former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto who is still a source of inspiration for him and millions of Pakistanis. He said this award is also a tribute to the sincerity and hard work of his fellow workers at Nadra.-PR
