Apple goes down to being third largest smartphone maker

With Samsung and Apple ruling the smartphone industry, for the first time ever Huawei has dethroned Apple sending it down to number third position of being the largest smartphone manufacturer in the world.

Counterpoint’s Market Pulse is a company that tracks brands based on their monthly model sales across over 40 countries worldwide. They reported Huawei’s achievement consistently for the month of June and July and marked it as the second largest smartphone maker in the world. The firm’s hard work in spending on Research and Development (R&D), aggressive marketing campaigns and sales channel expansion led it to gain the second spot on the list.

According to Peter Richardson, Counterpart’s Research Director, the feat was a vital advancement for the brand since they have been making strides for building their reputation in this segment.

Samsung is still crowned as the largest smartphone manufacturer globally with a 21% share. Huawei holds the second position with almost 12% whereas Apple lies below only a bit lower, writes Tech Juice.

The Verge reports, Counterpoint researchers noted that Huawei holds a weak presence in the South Asian, Indian and North American markets that “limits Huawei’s potential to the near-to-mid-term to take a sustainable second place position behind Samsung.”

Maintaining its position for two months, there is high chance that the China’s leading smartphone maker might lose its place due to Apple’s launch of iPhone 8 that is expected to happen next week.
