Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has said that infrastructure plays a vital role in industrial and social development, therefore solid measures being taken by the government for improvement of infrastructure in the province. He was addressing a meeting held to review Pindi Bhattian-Chiniot-Kamal Pur Road project, here on Wednesday.
Senior Advisor Sardar Zulfiqar Ali Khan Khosa, Minister for Law, Rana Sanaullah, Members Provincial Assembly Malik Muhammad Waris Kallu, Haji Muhammad Yaqoob Sheikh, Ilyas Chinioti, Chief Secretary Punjab and Secretary Communication and Works were present on the occasion.
He also said besides maintenance of a high standard and timely completion of development projects, transparent utilisation of every penny of public money is being ensured. He further said that a comprehensive policy has been evolved for the completion of development schemes within timeframe and instructions have been issued to the departments concerned to strictly follow the policy.
According to him, there was hardly any project that was completed within timeframe during the last eight years and as a result the government had to bear additional expenditures of billions of rupees, which is a grave injustice to the people of the province. Contractors and the department concerned officials were involved in delaying execution of development projects. However, the present government is promoting the culture of timely completion of development projects while third party audit of mega projects has been made mandatory for the transparent utilisation of public money. All out resources are being utilised for the uplift of the province and provision of basic amenities to the masses.
The Chief Minister said its is the responsibility of public representatives to come up to the expectations of the people whereas public service is the mission of the government. He also said development projects worth billions of rupees are being executed in the province and he would preside over meetings to review the pace of work on uplift schemes under Annual Development Programme on monthly basis.
He said development of far-flung and remote areas is the top priority of the government and special attention is being paid to the completion of uplift projects in the areas. He directed C&W Department to take solid measures for completing development projects delayed in the past. He said Sagian Interchange has been completed within a record period of five months and this project would leave a positive impact on the development of the province.
