Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Tuesday announced in the National Assembly for giving a civil award to the late religious scholar Dr Sarfaraz Hussain Naeemi in recognition of his services as the House strongly condemned the suicide attack in which he was killed at Jamia Naeemia in Lahore last week.
Earlier, the House adopted a unanimous resolution paying tribute to Dr Naeemi for services rendered by him and recommended civil award by the government. Responding to a point of order raised by Chairman Sunni Ittehad Council, MNA Sahibzada Fazal Karim in the Lower House of the Parliament in the first day of the resumption of the debate on the Budget, the Prime Minister said that Dr Sarfaraz Naeemi was great scholar of the country and he had rendered significant services for the teachings as well as the promoting the real sprit of Islam.
Gilani announced to give civil award to the late Sarfaraz Naeemi, saying that the government recognises his services for the promotion of Islamic ideology in the country. The Prime Minister said that the entire nation was grieved over the loss of the great Islamic scholar. The resolution was moved by Federal Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Babar Awan, which was unanimously adopted by the House.
The resolution says that killing of Dr Sarfaraz Naeemi was heinous conspiracy against the country and the House strongly condemns this act of barbarism. The resolution reiterates the government's resolve to eliminate terrorism and extremism from the country. Earlier, Sahibzada Fazal Kareem while speaking strongly condemned the killing of the prominent religious scholar and demanded Prime Minister to announce the highest civilian award in recognition of his services.
He also demanded of the government to take strict action against those who had accept responsibility of this heinous crime of suicide attack on Jamia Naeemia in which the great scholar lost his life. The people by observing complete shutter down across the country on his demise had proved that they reject any kind of terrorism and split among their ranks, he added. The MNA also urged the House to adopt a unanimous resolution to strongly condemn the terror attack in result of which Dr Naeemi was martyred.
