Historically Custom House has played a prominent role in the domain of Sports especially hockey and has always been proud to have outstanding players. Field Hockey was inducted in Olympic Games in the year 1928 held at Amsterdam and United Indian Team participated therein.
It is, however, worth mentioning that in that squad two Preventive Officers namely Shoukat Ali and Ferozuddin Khan (father of Air Chief Marshal Farooq Feroze Khan Retd) participated as members of the team.
Since independence Pakistan Customs and Pakistan Hockey have been together. The Muslim Customs players of undivided sub-continent opted for Pakistan and joined Customs at Karachi. During the period from 1947 to 1952, the Customs Hockey Team comprised Indian born players like S.M. Hayat, A.W. Siddiqui, Nasimullah Siddiqui, Sultan Khan, M. R. Ghani, Asad Ali, Syed Ali Siddiqui and Syed Ghayasuddin to name but a few of them.
The year 1955 was an important year for the Customs Hockey team when some youngsters and upcoming players like Mahmood ul Hassan, Syed Habib Ali Kiddie, Anwar Ahmed Khan, Qazi Musarrat, Jamshed Hamid, Zafar Ahmed Khan, Ghulam Sarwar, Chaudhry Ashraf were also inducted in the Customs Hockey Team. This team won the first Quaid-e-Azam Gold Cup Hockey Tournament organised by Customs at Karachi was graced by Madre-Millat Miss Fatima Jinnah as a Chief Guest.
Emulating the example set by the Sea Customs, the Central Excise & Land Customs also raised a hockey team during the year 1957 and inducted famous players like Asghar Ali Khan, Akhtar Ali Khan, Qamar Ali Khan, (famously known as Ace Brothers), Gulrez Akhter, Laeeq Ahmad and Mumtaz Mehdi.

It was by virtue of their top-notch performance that some of the Customs players were compared with metaphors viz. Anwar Ahmad Khan as Rock of Gibraltar; because of his robust tackling; Samiullah Khan as Flying Horse; because of his tremendous speed with the ball; Jehangir Ahmad Butt Rare All Rounder, because he could play in all the positions equally well except goal keeping.
Abdul Waheed Khan, being the highest scorer of 17 goals in a single International Tournament and also for his anticipation in the rebounds from the opponent goal keepers. Islahuddin Siddiqui, was known for his sour bursts because of his speed while tackling the opponent's penalty corner attempts, which were 99% thwarted, and scorer Syed Khursheed Aslam having a panther's speed.
Pakistan Customs has the distinction of having many hockey stalwarts who shouldered the responsibility of Captains and Selectors, not only in National but International Hockey as well.
Due to outstanding performance, outside as well as within country, following Customs Players are graced with civil medals.

Preventive Collectorate of Custom House has always been associated in a big way with the promotion of sports in Pakistan particularly hockey but also Cricket, Football, Tennis, Squash and Athletics. It had a number of persons in different faculties of sports. Pakistan Customs (Preventive Collectorate) as an organisation has provided the services of Thirty Olympians, Sixty International players, besides Coaches, Umpires, Journalists, Technical Officials, Commentators and Media Co-ordinators in sports.
Since 2006 Pakistan Customs regained its position in Pakistan Hockey Federation and Collector of Customs Preventive was nominated as the Vice President of Pakistan Hockey Federation. Collector of Customs Preventive is also the President of Custom Preventive Service Club and Sports Complex in Federal "B" Area at Karachi. In order to uplift the national game a Hockey Academy was established at the Preventive Service Club and Sports Complex, Karachi, which is serving as a nursery of young hockey players under 14 years of age who are voluntarily been coached by our renowned International players like Olympian Hanif Khan, Naseem Mirza, Danish Kaleem and Muhammad Ali Khan on an Astroturf which has already outlived its life.
Even then every year it is providing players to Pakistan Hockey, for both junior and senior level, like Sohail Abbas, Olympian Sameer Hussain, Ahmed Alam, Kashif Jawad, Imran Warsi and Jaseem Khan.
Besides, hockey, Customs has patronised the game of Cricket, Weight Lifting, Kick Boxing, Cycling and we had people who brought laurels for Pakistan at International Events like Maqsood Ahmad Butt who was Junior Mr Asia (Body Building) Mr Dilwaris Khan (Title Holder for Kick Boxing) Mr Sardar Khan (Cyclist World Record Holder). Mr Jalaluddin (First Hattrick in One Day International Cricket). In addition to above the rich history of enforcement and sports in Customs especially Preventive Collectorate being mother of all Customs Collectorates in Pakistan and has a very strong Cultural Background.
It is a matter of immense concern for the department that we are loosing our hockey pride due to ban on recruitment and paucity of funds. Pakistan Customs inducted hockey players lastly in the year 1986, i.e. Ferhat Hasan Khan, Waseem Feroz, Mansoor Ahmad and Kh. Junaid Ahmad who represented Pakistan National Hockey Team and with the combination of elders they actively participated not at the national level but international level of the game. However without fresh recruitment in Preventive Collectorate it is simply not possible to keep up motion with past hockey standards. Recently the Government of Pakistan has issued a directive that departmental hockey teams may be re-built. This has created an opportunity for us to re-build our hockey team. Support of FBR is however required at all levels to actively participate and contribute towards the development of national game of hockey.
