LONDON: Thermal coal for export in May from Australia's Newcastle port rose to a four-month high of $90 a tonne on Thursday on the globalCOAL platform.
Several coal miners have declared force majeure on coal shipments from the cyclone-hit Bowen Basin in Australia, after the storm damaged railways, disrupting deliveries.
The disruption has mainly impacted coking coal supplies but tightness in the market has also caused thermal coal prices to rise, traders said.
