City District Government Karachi (CDGK) has taken another innovative decision to conduct a comprehensive study of storm water drainage system. The study will be carried out through a reputed consultant to improve the overall system by designing and constructing new drains network in the metropolis.
This was stated by Nazim Karachi, Syed Mustafa Kamal while addressing a meeting of engineers and officers of Works and Services department. He said the project costing billion of rupees will help transform Karachi into most modern and developed city in the world.
He said offers have been invited from reputed local and foreign firms, who possess necessary experience of similar projects in mega cities. In the past, Mustafa Kamal pointed out, no storm water drainage system was constructed here as a result of which rain water always accumulated on roads and streets causing problems for people.
However, the Haq Parast leadership has initiated work on such a system at under-construction roads, bridges and underpasses and all such places did not inundate during recent rains.
In view of this experience, it has been decided to have a proper storm water drainage system for a small street to big corridors and work has already been started on this, he added. The City Nazim said to start with applications have been invited from reputed firms to conduct consultancy for whole city. He said the project is being given priority and work will start soon after selection of consultant.
He directed the engineers to come up with suggestions in the light of their experience so that related complications could be resolved and the city is made to give a better look.
