Ministry of Youth Affairs will honour youth with awards for their excellent work in different fields on Youth Day (August 12). The sources said on Saturday that the award would comprise a shield and a certificate along with cash award of Rs 50,000 in each field.
They said it would be a regular feature from this year, which would serve as a catalyst to encourage the country's young pool to contribute towards national development. They said two types of awards - National Youth Award and Jinnah Award - would be conferred on the youth who excel in the fields of literature, culture, education, science and technology, sports and business, community services and personalities or organisations working for welfare of youth.
Those who were between 15 to 29 years would be eligible for the National Award while for the Jinnah Youth Award, no age limit has been made mandatory. In the month of April every year, they said, the Ministry of Youth Affairs will invite nominations on the prescribed proforma through advertisement, federal ministries, provincial governments, NGOs, HEC, sports federations, Chamber of Commerce, Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE), Pakistan Medical and Dental Council(PMDC) and Pakistan Engineering Council(PEC).
As far as selection procedure is concerned, they said a preliminary selection committee headed by Joint Secretary, Ministry of Youth affairs will recommend three persons in each category.
While a committee, headed by the Secretary Ministry of Youth Affairs will finalise nominations for the approval of the Federal Minister of the Ministry of Youth Affairs. A person once conferred the award shall not be eligible for this award again. They said every award, cancellation, annulment or restoration thereof, shall be published in the Gazette of Pakistan.
