Blue Football team put up fine display to clinch the IInd edition of Lahore School of Economics (LSE) Football Tournament 2007. They imposed 3-1 win over holders Gray Football team at picturesque LSE Football Ground, Burki Road here on Wednesday. It was revengeful win as Blue lost to Gray when the final of first event was staged last year.
The chief guest of the final was FIFA Referee Asif Kiyani while PFF Media Manager Akber Wahidi presided over the function. During prize distribution ceremony, he awarded the winning trophy to skipper Mobeen Saeed of LSE while LSE Gray's skipper Bilal Ahmed had to content with runner-up trophy.
Kamil Trophy grabbed the third-place trophy, after LSE Yellow outclassed LSE Red 8-1. The highlight of third-place match was hat-trick by spearhead Umar Zia who managed four goals. The winners led 4-0 at interval and their other goal getters were Umar Mubaris (2), Kamil Tariq (1) and Mateen Khalid (1). Red struck honour-saving goal through Bilal.
LSE Blue were the first to settle down and surged ahead in the seventh minute through winger Ubaid Ullah who pierced through rival's defence and steered the ball past keeper Hassan Rehman. But LSE Gray drew level in the 16th minute through midfielder Saad whose drive from close range gave keeper Osama Sheikh no chance. The winners regained lead in the 23rd minute when midfielder Talal Sheikh's long-range drive went into the cage.
The winners lead 2-1 at interval and it was all over when spearhead Usama Laghari pounced on keeper Rehman's rebound and rifled the ball in to make it 3-1 in the 19th minute of second session. National Referee Shams Pervez supervised the final under floodlights while LSE Sports Instructor Shahbaz Gill acted as General Coordinator.
