LONDON: The British government has failed to process a Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) request to extradite a suspect in the Imran Farooq Murder case to the UK.
The CPS originally asked for Mohsin Ali Syed to be extradited in early 2016 but senior officials in Islamabad told Dawn News that they are yet to receive the formal request for him to be handed over.
According to UK rules any extradition request must be processed through the Home Office and Foreign Office before being formally passed on to the Pakistani authorities.
However, it is not clear whether the block is coming from the Home Office, the Foreign Office, or both.
On the other hand, Geo News citing its sources said that the British Home Office, responsible for routing extradition requests to foreign countries seeking legal assistance, has not yet sent extradition request for Mohsin Ali Syed, giving credence to fears that Dr Farooqs assassination inquiry has become polluted at various levels.
Scotland Yard has named Mohsin Ali Syed and Kashif Khan Kamran as the suspects involved in the high profile murder of Dr Imran Farooq outside his home in September 2010.
