Adamjee Insurance Company Limited was incorporated in 1960. Life insurance had been the larger segment of the company's assets, reserves and investments till it was nationalised in 1972. In spite of the major shocks, the company survived and the pace of progress grew rapidly over the decades.
With an extraordinary spiralling increase in profitable business over the decades, presently the company is the largest and the leading insurer in the country.
After the management change in 2004, the company's major shareholding now rests with the prestigious financial institution MCB Bank, and is part of the Nishat group. Japan Credit Rating Agency Ltd - (JCR) and Vital Information Services Pakistan (VIS) had assigned AIC "AA" for its claims paying ability for the year 2005. AIC is the only insurance company which was given the rating 'A' (Excellent) by A.M. Best for two consecutive years.
The Management Association of Pakistan (MAP) has awarded Adamjee the Corporate Excellence Award twice in the years 1997 and 1998. This award is in the financial sector and includes banks, insurance, leasing, modarba companies and other financial institutions.
Karachi Stock Exchange has awarded Adamjee Insurance Company Best Company Award among all sectors for 17 consecutive years- a unique record. It has also secured Best Export Performance Trophy from FPCCI 18 times.
Adamjee is the first general insurance company in Pakistan to achieve ISO 9002 certification from the world's oldest and most reputed certifying company - Lloyd's Register of quality assurance.
Adamjee also has the singular distinction of being declared 'The 2nd Best Insurance Company in Asia', by Euromoney in the year 2001.
Munich Re, the world's largest re-insurer has recognised Adamjee as the "Best managed insurance company between Vienna and Taipei".
