Younis Khan writes history against Australia

Published January 5, 2017 Updated January 5, 2017 07:44am

imagePakistan veteran batsman Younis Khan etched his name into record books, after he scored his 34th Test ton against Australia, in the third Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG), becoming the first batsman in the history of the game to score a hundred against the 11 member nations, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The only other player on the illustrious list is the Indian Wall Rahul Dravid, who has scored 100s against all ten full-member nations, scoring 36 centuries in his overall career.

The veteran batsman 34th century at the SCG on a rain marred third day, ties him against the likes of Sunil Gavaskar, Mahela Jayawardene and Brian Lara in the all-time century makers list at 6th place. Sachin Tendulkar aka Little Master remained on top of the list with 51 centuries under his belt.

Younis and Azhar shared a 146 runs third wicket stand, until Azhar was run out on 71, after he played a ball through mid on which was quickly picked by Mitchell Starc, and a strong throw by the fast bowler to the substitute wicket keeper Peter Handscomb marked the final blow.

Younis Khan, who remain the most prolific run scorer for Pakistan in Test cricket, now eyes to achieve the 10,000 runs milestone, having already accumulated 9,789 runs in 114 matches. The goal does not remain too distant, as only 12 batsmen have scored past 10,000 runs in Tests.
