KARACHI: The Sindh government has decided to approach the federal government to mobilize special teams of NADRA to issue Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) to people of rural areas of the province before the upcoming housing census.
According to media reports, the decision was taken in a meeting held under Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah to review the forthcoming housing and population census here at the CM House.
The CM was informed that there was a condition that the CNIC had to be presented to count households and the heads of the family.
Shah has directed the chief secretary to talk to the federal government and request it to mobilize special Nadra teams to issue CNICs to the residents of rural areas who had not obtained their cards so far.
There must be 100 percent coverage of Nadra in terms of issuing CNICs to the people of the province, he said while, everyone must be counted at right place.
It is pertinent to inform that the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) will conduct the national population census in March this year, after a gap of almost 18 years.
