English is ranked among the most spoken language in the world, and is a preferred language of business in many regions of the world.
Pakistan is among those countries where English language is held in high esteem, and one may call it stereotypical, is used to gauge a person educational and social standings.
However, where does Pakistan rank among its partner countries in English proficiency? As per a report released by Education First (EF), a private education company, Pakistan position is not too good, as it is ranked 48th out of 72 countries in speaking English.
Pakistan EF EPI Score was 48.78, it was placed 13 among the 19 countries in Asia. The reasons behind the low ranking as per the report were low Internet Penetration of 13.8 percent and low level of spending on education.
Pakistan also falters behind the mean years of schooling, which was placed at only 4.73 years.
Netherland topped the list with Very High proficiency rating of 72.16, just ahead of Denmark and Sweden, who rank in second and third place respectively. Iraq was placed last on the list with a very low English proficiency level of 37.65.
However, it is pertinent to inform that the results are based on people who took the EF Standard English Test (EFSET), during 2015, some 950,000 people took the test from 72 countries.
