SUKKUR: The Opposition Leader in National Assembly (NA) Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah said that half of children population was out of schools in Pakistan, adding that society should be sensitized on children issues so as to ensure protection of child rights enshrined in UN charter.
Speaking at an event in connection with Universal Children Day, organized by different International Non Government Organizations (INGOs) and NGOs at Sindh Rural Support Organization (SRSO) Complex Sukkur, Syed Khursheed Shah said that he was optimist that the relevant UN agencies, corporate sector, civil society organizations, NGOs including SRSO and media will play their role to create a proactive environment for children.
He said that PPP government had taken several steps for the well being of children that demonstrated its strong political will and commitment towards their welfare.
He observed that there was a realization that all the stakeholders must put their sincere efforts towards making the society tolerant and ensuring healthy growth and development of children.
It is a matter of immense pleasure for me to note that Sindh Rural Support Organization and other INGOs and NGOs observed the Universal Childrens Day, he said.
Earlier, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) SRSO, Muhammad Dital Kalhoro in his welcome addressed said that children are our future and called upon civil society and parents in particular to play their role in protecting children rights and imparting best possible education and training to children to enable them to face the challenges of modern era.
Deputy Commissioner Sukkur Dr Waheed Asghar Bhutti, Project Coordinator Sarah Sahar, Deputy Director Social Welfare Abdul Qudoos Memon and others also spoke.
The event was attended by media personnel, representatives of the developments sector, government officials, teachers and students. A short tableau was performed by children of Pakistan Sweet Home Sukkur and other schools.
