The newly appointed Chief Justice Federal Shariat Court (FSC), Justice Haziqul Khairi took oath of his office on Tuesday in a ceremony held in the ceremonial hall of the Supreme Court Building.
Chief Justice of Pakistan, Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry administered oath of the office to Justice Haziqul Khairi, a former judge of High Court of Sindh, as Chief Justice Federal Shariat Court.
The judges of the Supreme Court, judges of the Federal Shariat Court, law officers, advocates and advocates-on-record, office bearers of the Supreme Court Bar Association, Pakistan Bar Council and officers of the apex Court attended the ceremony.
Registrar of the Supreme Court of Pakistan conducted proceedings of the ceremony.
It may be recalled here that the President has appointed former Justice Haziqul Khairi, as Chief Justice Federal Shariat Court in exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 203C of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. His tenure of the office will be three years.
While responding to various questions about the Hadood Ordinance, Justice Khairi said, "There is a need to review Hadood Ordinance because it is a man-created law and can be amended."
Regarding recommendations prepared by the Council of Islamic Ideology (CII), he said that a sub-committee of the Council had already prepared recommendations about Hadood Ordinance and these recommendations could be considered but not binding.
Talking about 'Riba' case, the newly appointed Chief Justice of the Federal Shariat Court said, "We will take up the 'Riba' case."
