LONDON: Britain's jobless rate dipped to 4.8 percent in the three months to the end of September, official data showed Wednesday, as employers appeared to shrug off Brexit concerns.
The Office for National Statistics (ONS) said the July-September rate -- a low for 11 years -- compared with 4.9 percent for the three month period that ended in August. Market expectations had been for no change.
The nation's jobless total meanwhile stood at 1.6 million people over the same period. That was 146,000 fewer than a year earlier.
"Employers so far have seemingly been maintaining a 'wait and see' approach after June's Brexit vote, helped by the economy's resilience in the third quarter," noted economist Howard Archer at IHS Global Insight.
The British economy expanded by 0.5 percent in the third quarter, recent data showed. That marked a slowdown compared with growth of 0.7 percent in the second quarter, but beat market expectations of 0.3 percent.
