NEW YORK: Major League Baseball's New York Yankees are not involved in takeover talks for English League Two side Notts County, ESPN reported Monday.
The report, citing an unnamed club source, told ESPN a report of club interest was "not true" and cited the team's current relationship with English Premier League side Manchester City as co-owners of Major League Soccer's New York City FC.
The source said an investor in the Yankees ownership group, Yankee Global Enterprises, could be involved in trying to purchase the world's oldest football club, founded in 1862.
A later report said talks were under way between Notts and Joseph Molloy, a former managing partner of the Yankees for a year while former Yankees owner George Steinbrenner was serving a suspension.
