ISLAMABAD: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) while expressing satisfaction over initiatives of government to empower women Monday asked the government to take additional steps for further socio-economic empowerment of women.
Abdul Rauf Alam, President FPCCI in a statement issued here said that the government should fight hunger and poverty by empowering women who have limited opportunities to fly high.
Speaking to the representatives of Lahore Women Chamber and Islamabad Women Chamber, he said that year after year more women were entering into a world of unemployment with limited options.
He said that most of the women who enter into business with no experience face losses which was very discouraging for new players.
Underlining the importance of grants, micro-loans and training, Abdul Rauf Alam said such moves could help young women learn economic skills and launch small businesses of their own successfully.
Government, business community, NGOs and banking sector should realize that prosperity was tied to empowerment of women, he added.
The president of FPCCI said that fighting poverty to eradicate hunger was only possible if government undertake a well-funded women empowerment plan to across the country.
He also demanded projects to help women learn networking, business planning, marketing, financial record-keeping and banking skills.
He asked the experienced businesswomen to pair with new to provide guidance and counselling creating a bond of female solidarity that was integral to success as sustainable, women-centred strategies should be adopted to end hunger and inequality.
Empowering women to participate in economic life across all sectors was essential to build stronger economies, achieve internationally agreed goals for development and sustainability, and improve the quality of life for women, men, families and communities, Alam added.
